According to Mintel, the U.S. mobile gaming market will grow by 82% between now and 2015 to reach $1.6 billion in sales. This prediction is in line with the exponential growth of the mobile market which is forecasted to increase by 538% in smartphone sales between 2006 and 2011 and 327% in tablet sales between 2010 and 2015. By 2014, analysts predict that mobile subscribers to the Internet will grow by 140%. The trend is painfully clear: mobile is going to take off within the next four years.

When this information is coupled with ComScore's statistic that 25% of mobile Internet users are playing games on their mobile device, the prediction that mobile gaming is going to become a highly important sector in the technology field in the coming years, becomes extremely probable.

Although many mobile games only cost users a small fee to download, in-game options to upgrade or access new features often require increased monetary investment on the part of the user. Advertisement in mobile applications has also shown to be more effective than its web counterpart. These factors make mobile game applications highly profitable for the developer of the software.
