Plan how your going to market your app before you even create it.
Who are you making this app for?
How are they going to hear about it?
Is their a market or need for your app?
These are all question that need to be answered before you even start building your app.
Free. $0.99. $1.99. $2.99. $4.99. $9.99.
You will see the majority of apps at those prices. Utility apps usually range from free to $0.99, games will go any where from free to that $4.99 mark (depending on the length of game and quality of graphics), while some higher end productivity apps can range from $1.99 up to $9.99. But there are also some GPS applications and remote desktop applications that break this mold and go for upwards of $40. But as always there is an exception to that, as some apps have managed to sell for nearly $1000.
When it comes to your app, you have to put it at a price point that is a true value for your customers. You can't put out an app that does nothing beneficial for customers at a $1.99 price tag. Maybe, a few will buy it, but not many.
If your going to do it, do it right.
Have you ever downloaded an app and it doesn't do what the description says it should do or it does do what it says it will do but does it poorly? What is the first thing you do?

In the iTunes and Android Store you will need to fill out a description of your app, put some screen shots up, and in turn will receive ratings on your app. These are all very important
Your description needs to be EXACTLY what your app does. Outline your features, benefits and what makes your app different and better than any other app on the market. Whatever you do, don't say your app does something, when in reality it does not.
Make sure your screen shots are the best parts of your app. The best designs and features should be shown in screen shots.
Ratings are huge! Have you ever downloaded a 2 star app? Neither have I.
Get the word out. Get on social media.
Get the app into peoples hands any way possible. Give it away. Ask people to 'beta test' your app. Go to colleges, schools, businesses, or any where else you think people would be interested in your app and hand out fliers. Go into forums and talk about your app with people who would care about it. Ask these people to try the app and give it an honest rating.
Follow these steps and your app should be getting downloads after downloads, and hopefully good ratings too!
